A mining adventure in Nevada got us hooked on opal. The adventure became a passion and the passion is still an adventure. We hope this spirit shows in what we do.
We create unique opal pendants. Each stone and setting is individually crafted. We use natural opal - not synthetic. Sometimes we prefer the look of inlayed opal or other stones. Occasionally, we use boulder opal (spectacular, but normally found in thin layers) and rarely a really good doublet or triplet. Most opal is Australian opal, but sometimes a special item is made from the Nevada opal we've mined. In either case, opal is a unique and special stone. Generally we avoid pre- manufactured and mold formed work. Occasionally we buy chains and other items to use in our jewelry. Opal, the artistry of lost wax casting and unique jewelry fabrication are our passions. We do not focus on quantity of sales. Our mining adventures are fun, we enjoy our work and are here to help.

OPAL CARE – Opal is fairly durable having a Mohs hardness index of 5.0 – 6.5. So, please enjoy and wear your opal often. Items such as a steel sink, ceramic or granite countertop and gems such as amethyst, emeralds, rubies and diamonds are harder and can scratch opal. Opal, like many other gemstones, can be chipped, cracked or may break if dropped or knocked against a hard surface. Store each piece of opal jewelry in its own padded container or cloth bag. You may clean you opal in warm, plain or soapy water. Don’t soak it and avoid detergents, ultrasonic cleaning and use of other chemicals. Applying oil may discolor your opal. Opal contains water but will largely dehydrate soon after being mined, then stabilizes. Nevada opal generally contains more water than Australian opal and can change color characteristics and may crack or craze during the dehydration process. After initial dehydration and stabilization opal is likely to remain intact, but we recommend avoiding extreme humidity and temperature changes. Storage in bank vaults should be avoided since they are generally kept in an extra low humidity state.
